One of the best and efficient means for individuals and companies from being victims of identify theft, data theft, fraud and malicious activity is awareness. And yet, this seems to be the area where people fall short.
Simply being aware of your surroundings is a good step toward a personal awareness program. Check out your local area for businesses or security personnel providing security seminars. Read and research the latest scams and methods. Pay particular attention to your local news and newspapers for the latest victim story, there is always valuable information about what is happening in your area.
All of this takes little effort and can prove valuable if and when you may be on that road to victimization There is a lot of truth to the old adage; “if something doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t”.
Know your surroundings, know who you are dealing with, be vigilant, and above all, be aware.
Ok… I’ve been receiving emails and comments requesting assistance in various things. Therefore, I’ve created this category to assist anyone that asks. I can’t promise I’ll know the answer, but I will do my best in either giving you a correct answer or providing you with information or a link to go to get the answer. All topics are are open, from Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Risk Assessment to programming, web design, and operating systems. I guess you could call this “stump the summitt”
My passion – Risk assessment and Disaster Recovery planning. Why? Because it is an area where one can play scenerios based on “what ifs”. A good planner needs experience, insight, patience, and above all, a desire to cover all the bases.
It can be argued that “covering all the bases” is un-achievable – however, I believe that if thought, experience, and proper planning are built into the process, then executing and refining plans through scenerio exercises will only aide the organization in meeting unexpected events.
If you have experiences in BC/DR, please share here and start a dialog.
Welcome to my IS/IT resource and discussion site. I have been in the Information Systems and Technology field for a long time. If PC-DOS 1.0 and the IBM 5150 jogs anyones memory, that should give you an idea.
I’ve seen unbelievable technology changes in our world over those years; from the exciting, to the downright scary. Sometimes it even puts some meat behind the Area 51 theories. But I digress. I use my site to make information available to my peers, students, curiosity-seekers, wannabes, and the public on latest trends, technologies, threats, security issues, and other interesting topics. I make every effort to validate the information. If something isn’t correct but seems to be taking on a public life of it’s on, I will also comment on that.
If you are interested in contributing, please contact me. I welcome all serious discussions and topics. My passion is security awareness, business continuity and disaster recovery planning. I also have a need to occassionally sit down and throw myself unmercifully into several hours of programming to satisfy my never-ending pursuit of learning.
Thanks for stopping by – please drop me a note, I’d love to hear from you.
